I am moving......to a new blog.

As some of you may know I am great friends with a fellow gamer named Ed.  We seem to balance each other out in some ways and always reign in each other when we have dreams of changing the gaming world.  Well this time we are both doing it via a shared blog.  So many of my newer work will only be over there on the new blog.

With that said please help us by checking it out and telling your friends to follow us as well.  Many of our previous post will be redone on it but we have much more planned.

I'm back and yes I am alive.

It's been awhile since I posted anything as I got moved into a new house a few months ago.  With this memorial day weekend I actually have sometime to sit down and start thinking about posting again.  So what is new you ask, a lot has changed but most of all I actually have a true man cave now.  I am still getting settled in and hopefully will have more regular updates.

Stripping Metal Grey Knights

Taking all my older metal Grey Knights out of the box and breaking them apart for pre stripping.  Now these were clear coated and so I need to rip that off before anything else.  The best thing I have seen work is straight paint thinner and soaking them in the sunlight for about 3-4 days.  This will weaken the clear coat and permit me to use simple nail polish remover to fully strip them later.  As you can see I have a rather large collection of bits and bobs for the force.  Upstairs I already have some that were stripped down a couple months ago and are bare metal.

FW Dreadnought with Auto-cannon arms.

Simple yet effective is sometimes the best things.  Here I have used some of the Cinematic Effects that I got awhile back and also some smoke idea that I got from a tutorial on the ammobunkers forum.  Once again the white is the hardest part to the whole model as it takes forever to layer it on just right.

Transports for Draigo and the Grey Knights

First up is the Storm Raven that will help bring in the bulk of my quick reaction forces.  As you can see I painted the canopies and they actually look better in person.  The base will be replaced with one to match the army from Secret Weapon Bases.

Grey Knights Brotherhood banner bearers.

I got both of my Brotherhood banners built and one is actually painted.  I like the relief banners but they are a pain to paint if your having a bad day.  Once I got it all done I relized I should have paitned the area where the planet is cracking with red, green, or some other color.  But its done now so I might go back and see what I can do.  I also used some cinematic effects that I got awhile ago in a really good trade.

Grey Knights "Draigo" and the boys.

We've been looking at the units as I build them but haven't seen the group together at all.  So here it is.... most of the infantry as they were a few weeks ago.  All but two paladins have been built but progress is slow and steady on the paint jobs.  The white takes the longest as its layered on each model with loving care and patience.

You can see my custom made objective markers and my 60mm marker for fun.

Hobby News Review - Armorcast Resin Battlefield Scenery

Starting today with a new set of Articles to help people build up their hobby knowledge.  I know for myself I have spent a lot of time searching the internet coming up with ideas for models and products.  There are quite a few companies out there that offer some really good products.

Today I am going to tell you about Armorcast Cinematic Effects.  Having heard about these on 40k radio from Spencer and the crew in the commercials I started to check them out.  To be honest I was blown away at the effect that I had seen on several models on the web with them.  Although the pricing was a bit much for me at the time with shipping I was able to hunt down a deal and managed to buy out an entire store’s stock of them for $20.00 off of a website.  In the box was a random assortment of 100 packages of various effects.

What you get in a package is whatever effect you ordered in Pewter.  They do require some cleaning and maybe some pinning to keep on your models but the effect is really awesome when painted nicely.

Happy New Years

So this year brings many new things to my life.  I recently graduated from Alvernia University with a B.S. in Business Administration and am starting my M.B.A. this January.  Add to that a new house with gaming room and loads of work to be done on it.  So my time might be limited and I need to focus on the task at hand.  So with that in mind I have decided to follow Dave Taylor and use his tracking system of models to complete my favorite army.  The Grey Knights....
